Volunteer Awards, DV Support and We Are Mobilise

7 – 10 October 2025

This week at Fletcher Street Cottage we’ve been busy serving meals, celebrating volunteers and connecting our community with essential services. Here’s a snapshot of what happened.

Highlights

  • The Wednesday Wombats cooked up a delicious breakfast of poached eggs, hash browns, bacon and Steve’s homemade salsa verde. Thanks to our incredible team of volunteers, our generous donors and our amazing Breakfast Voordinator Steve, everyone can enjoy a hot, nourishing start to their day.
  • Volunteer recognition was in full swing this week! Ella, our Fletcher Street Cottage breakfast volunteer, won Young Volunteer of the Year for Northern Rivers at the 2025 Volunteer of the Year Awards. Kez was a finalist in the Adults category, Mary was a finalist in the Senior Volunteer category and the Fletcher Street Cottage volunteer team were finalists as a group. The Byron Community Centre Board were also finalists - congratulations to all!
  • We are grateful for our ongoing partnership with We Are Mobilise. This week we supported two women fleeing domestic violence and a man with rental payments and bond support through the Kickstarter Program. These collaborations make life-changing outcomes possible for our community members.
  • Fletcher Street Cottage supported over 285 people this week. Visiting services included APM Employment Service, the Homeless Health Outreach Team, SCU Naturopathy Student Clinic, Connecting Home Housing Team and a GP, providing wraparound support for those accessing our services.
