16th – 20th March 2026
This week at Fletcher Street Cottage we celebrated community, strengthened partnerships and supported people to maintain housing and stability. Here’s a snapshot of what happened.
Highlights
- This week we celebrated Steve’s birthday, with staff, service users and participants coming together to mark the occasion. As our Breakfast Coordinator and chef, Steve plays an incredibly important role in our community. A warm meal can be a source of comfort, stability and connection for people experiencing hardship, and Steve’s work makes a meaningful difference every day.
- Through our partnership with We Are Mobilise, we supported a woman to maintain her housing, preventing her from becoming homeless. Partnerships like this allow Fletcher Street Cottage to provide practical support that leads to real housing outcomes.
- One participant shared the following message with us: “When I first arrived in Byron Bay, I had no permanent accommodation. I needed to prioritise my health before starting to rebuild my life. I am so grateful to Fletcher Street Cottage for guiding me to the right support services. Thanks to that support, I was able to get back on my feet.”
- Members of our team attended the Byron Shire Committee Against Domestic and Family Violence, where services collaborate, share resources and improve responses for people experiencing domestic and family violence.
- Fletcher Street Cottage Manager Damian Farrell, Acting General Manager Michelle Heuer and Acting Inspector Donna Tutt from Byron Police met to strengthen communication and clarify procedures. Strong relationships with public services help create a safer and more connected community environment.
- The Fletcher Street Cottage team also participated in the Northern Rivers Zero Pets Working Group, which focuses on addressing barriers faced by people experiencing homelessness who have pets, and identifying ways services can better support them.
