Secure Housing, Veteran Milestones and Underwear Donations

26th August – 29th August 2025

This week at Fletcher Street Cottage we’ve been busy supporting our community, celebrating milestones and providing essential services to those experiencing homelessness. Here’s a snapshot of what happened.

Highlights

  • We were thrilled to see a young woman who has been experiencing homelessness embark on a journey down south to stay in secure housing with her family. Our Community Support Workers supported her alongside The Family Centre – Youth Program. Partnerships like these are vital in achieving positive outcomes.
  • Our fortnightly Naturopath Outreach Clinic from Southern Cross University continued, offering holistic care and support to those accessing Fletcher Street Cottage services.
  • A Veteran who has been attending Fletcher Street Cottage for several years reached the goals he set for himself. He expressed that having multiple services in one place, alongside the dedicated support of our Community Support Workers, has given him a strong support system and helped him build stability.
  • A woman who accessed Fletcher Street Cottage a year ago while sleeping in a tent visited on Friday to share that she is now in permanent housing, back at work, and actively engaged in weekly community support groups. Feedback like this highlights the real difference our services make in people’s lives.
  • Kelly from Underwear For Humanity donated boxes of new men’s and women’s underwear this week. Access to basic items like underwear is a privilege not everyone has, and partnerships like this help bring dignity and comfort to our community. You can support Underwear for Humanity here: Underwear for Humanity.
  • For the month of August, Fletcher Street Cottage welcomed over 1,000 people through our doors. We provided over 800 hot breakfasts, 300 showers, and completed more than 150 loads of washing, ensuring basic needs are met while we continue working towards long-term support and stability.
