19th August – 22nd August 2025
This week at Fletcher Street Cottage we’ve been busy providing practical support, creative spaces and vital connections to our community. Here’s a snapshot of what happened.
Highlights
- On Tuesday, Maddi joined Rasela’s BayFM show BELLY with Yasmin and Jordyn from the Far North Coast Law Society. They spoke about the generous $5,000 donation from FNCLS, the difference it will make for people accessing Fletcher Street Cottage and the importance of legal support. The conversation also explored the many reasons people can experience homelessness and why breaking down stigma is essential.
- Wednesday was a cold, rainy day, and we were busy providing shelter from the elements. We supported over 60 people with showers, laundry, wet weather gear, tarps and one-on-one appointments with our Community Support Workers, while also connecting them with our visiting mental health team.
- On Thursday, our local GP from First Light Health Care and the Homeless Health Outreach Team visited Fletcher Street Cottage. While people waited for appointments, Jennifer, our Art Space facilitator, ran a creative and calming art session, providing a space for self-expression and mindfulness.
- Through collaboration with Social Futures, we were able to support a client into temporary accommodation. Teamwork and partnership are essential in the homelessness sector, and this outcome highlights the power of coordinated support.
