4th September – 7th September 2025
This week at Fletcher Street Cottage we’ve been busy supporting our community with meals, practical assistance and vital services. Here’s a snapshot of what happened.
Highlights
- On Wednesday, Amrita's Pantry cooked up a delicious meal for our service users. Thank you to Kay and Kristy for helping make the day so special.
- Franka, visiting from Germany for her school holidays, spent time volunteering alongside our Breakfast Coordinator Steve, preparing meals and treats for our Women’s Space and Art Space.
- Nathan from Northern Rivers Podiatry generously donated a whole bin of new shoes. Our service users were thrilled to receive them!
- A community member took the time to thank one of our Community Support Workers for supporting a vulnerable man: “Thank you for your patience and empathy, I saw you sitting with him and treating him with respect and dignity, that would have had a big impact on that man.” We were able to connect him with the medical support he needed.
- On Wednesday, our staff attended the Byron Shire Committee Against Domestic and Family Violence Bi-Monthly Meeting. This meeting allows sector updates, new referral processes and best-practice information to be shared.
- We also attended the End Rough Sleeping Service Coordination Meeting with key homelessness stakeholders in the Byron Shire to strengthen collaboration and client outcomes.
- On Friday, our Naturopathy Student Clinic ran in partnership with Southern Cross University, giving service users access to natural medicine and interventions that might otherwise be difficult to access.
- Throughout the week, we supported service users with a wide range of needs, including resume and cover letter writing, temporary housing referrals, tech support for TAFE courses, psychological support, transport to medical appointments, access to financial assistance and government support.
- In total, we supported over 233 people this week, continuing our commitment to provide practical, compassionate care for our community.
