This week at Fletcher Street Cottage, we’ve been busy supporting our community, connecting with essential services, and providing creative and practical support to those experiencing hardship. Here’s a snapshot of what happened.
Highlights:
- We supported over 236 people this week, continuing our commitment to meet the growing needs of our community.
- A service user who had been unable to access any form of income for over a year came to Fletcher Street Cottage for support. We connected him with a social worker and our visiting GP, and through our link with Services Australia, his payments have now been reinstated. He also had no form of ID, which we were able to resolve, giving him renewed access to essential services.
- On Wednesday, Suzanne and Will, our Community Support Workers, attended the End Rough Sleeping Collaboration Byron Shire Service Coordination Meeting. This important meeting brings together service providers including Social Futures, Momentum Collective, Homes NSW, Byron Shire Council, The Family Centre and Uniting, to collaborate on client care and housing outcomes.
- On Thursday morning, Fletcher Street Cottage staff attended group supervision led by Jane Enter, organised by the End Rough Sleeping Collaboration Byron Shire. This session supported the mental health and wellbeing of homelessness sector workers, providing a safe space to share challenges, celebrate strengths and strengthen our support networks.
- Our Women’s Space had another successful week, giving service users the opportunity to slow down, express themselves creatively, and find calm and focus amid the stresses of daily life.
