28th – 31st October 2025
This week at Fletcher Street Cottage we’ve been busy connecting people to vital services, supporting women through crisis and strengthening collaboration across our community networks. Here’s a look at what’s been happening.
Highlights
- We supported an 85-year-old community member, connecting them with housing and aged care services to ensure they have the safety and support they need.
- A man and his family who were experiencing homelessness were referred for rent and bond assistance, helping them secure housing and move toward stability.
- Our Women’s Space volunteers continued to make a huge impact, providing compassionate support and practical help. This week, women accessed emergency relief, domestic and family violence support, showers, washing machines, hot meals and housing assistance.
- On Tuesday, Damian, our Manager, spoke on a panel at Southern Cross University, discussing Fletcher Street Cottage’s disaster response and what we’ve learned from the 2022 floods and 2025 Ex-Tropical Cyclone Alfred.
- On Thursday, Maddi spoke with Jenny from ZZZ FM about her Zonta Young Women in Business Leadership Award and the growing impact of Fletcher Street Cottage’s Byron Women program.
- We also attended the Byron Shire Committee Against Domestic and Family Violence meeting and the Local Leaders Group Meeting, working alongside key stakeholders to address barriers and advocate for meaningful, long-term change.
- It was another busy week, with over 240 people supported to access essential services, health care and housing assistance.
