Golf Day Raises $5,000 to Support Locals Doing It Tough

Fletcher Street Cottage is incredibly grateful to receive a $5,000 donation from the John Mitchell Memorial Golf Day, delivered by the Lennox Head Lions Club. Their support comes at a time when many in our community are facing growing hardship, and it will make a real difference to the lives of locals who rely on our services.

More than 100 players across 25 teams came together in November 2025 at the Byron Bay Golf Course for a day of sunshine, great golf, an exceptional lunch and generous community spirit. The annual event is one of the Lions Club’s key fundraisers, bringing local businesses and enthusiastic players together to support charities across the region.

“What a day. We thank everyone for their wonderful involvement and contribution. The Golf Day continues to be a pillar of our club’s fundraising efforts and a celebration of community generosity and good-spirited fun,” said Graham Shaw from the Lennox Head Lions Club.

This year’s event raised close to $20,000, enabling the Lions to donate $10,000 to The Buttery and $5,000 to Fletcher Street Cottage, with additional funds set aside for further community initiatives. The Buttery provides essential mental health and addiction services, while Fletcher Street Cottage supports those experiencing hardship by offering warm meals, emergency relief, advocacy, counselling and pathways to secure housing.

In addition to the financial donation, the Lions Club is generously providing $1,000 worth of vouchers to support local women and children over Christmas, a time that can be especially difficult for families experiencing crisis.

The four-person Ambrose event began at midday with a shotgun start and included a putting competition that added to the fun of the day. But beyond the great golf and good company, the true winners were the local organisations and community members who will benefit from this significant act of generosity.

We extend our heartfelt thanks to the Lennox Head Lions Club, their sponsors and everyone who took part. Your support helps us continue to offer care, dignity and practical assistance to people in our community doing it tough.
