Experience the Magic of Irish Music

Step into the heart of Irish tradition this September 2025 as the Byron Theatre hosts a rare double bill of music and film. The evening begins with Living the Tradition, an award-winning documentary that follows acclaimed cellist Ilse de Ziah on a journey through Ireland's breathtaking landscapes, uncovering the origins of the country's hauntingly beautiful airs. With stunning cinematography, intimate interviews and melodies that have echoed through generations, the film is a moving celebration of Ireland's musical legacy.

When the credits roll, the magic continues on stage. Ilse de Ziah will be joined by virtuoso guiatarist Ian Date for a spellbinding live performance. Together, they weave a seamless fusion of Celtic, jazz and world music with a classical edge. Their debut album, Here & There, has been praised for its sophisticated compositions and improvisations that breathe new life into global musical traditions.

"It's a chance for audiences to be immersed in Ireland's rich cultural heritage while experiencing the incredible talent of Ilse de Ziah and Ian Date right here in Byron Bay." Jon Howell, Byron Theatre Manager
