I love my community because the people that come to use our services are a colourful and likeable bunch. I hear a lot of stories here – interesting, inspiring funny and many that tug at heartstrings.
Tell us about your role at the Byron Community Centre? I am sometimes the person who will welcome you to Fletcher Street Cottage. I started coming as
a volunteer and then took on the role of Welcome Worker one to two mornings a week in addition to my volunteer role. I love doing both. It is a place where everyone is welcome and people come to connect with each other in different ways and find support.
What’s the most inspiring part of your job? The staff team is amazing – cohesive, collaborative and dedicated to finding all sorts of ways to best support our service users. I feel proud to be part of it. I learn a lot from being here and there is a nice feel good factor for me in being part of this place.

It is a privileged position that I am in, where people will share their stories with me. This place is gold.
