27th April – 1st May 2026
This week at Fletcher Street Cottage we’ve been strengthening housing stability, collaborating across the sector and preparing our community for the colder months ahead. Here’s a snapshot of what happened.
Highlights
- This week, we supported a woman to maintain her housing through advocacy and our partnership with We Are Mobilise. Financial assistance provided through the program gave her immediate relief and greater security in her accommodation. Partnerships like this allow us to provide practical, tangible support that can prevent homelessness before it begins.
- Staff attended the By Name List meeting on Wednesday, working alongside local services to develop coordinated support plans and solutions for vulnerable community members experiencing homelessness or housing insecurity.
- On Thursday, members of our team participated in the End Rough Sleeping Collaboration meeting, where local sector leaders came together to discuss solutions, barriers and opportunities to reduce homelessness across the Byron Shire.
- A big thank you to Amrita’s Pantry, who cooked and served a delicious breakfast on Wednesday. Volunteer-led breakfast groups bring warmth, connection and variety to our breakfast service, while helping different parts of the community come together in support of one another.
- Our wonderful laundry volunteer Karina handmade beautiful scarves for participants ahead of the colder months. Acts of kindness like this help people feel cared for, connected and supported during difficult times. (See: Karina Scarves)
- We are also grateful to Sue and Brenda from the Anglican Church, who donated warm beanies and gloves for participants preparing for winter. Practical donations like these make a meaningful difference for people sleeping rough or experiencing hardship.
