Homelessness Week, Creative Calm and New Naturopathic Care

5th August – 8th August 2025

This week at Fletcher Street Cottage, we’ve been busy supporting our community, hosting a Homelessness Week event and providing unique services to help those in need. Here’s a snapshot of what happened.

Highlights:

  • We supported over 240 people this week, continuing our commitment to meet the growing needs of our community.
  • To mark Homelessness Week 2025, we came together to celebrate our incredible community of service providers, service users, volunteers and staff. On Wednesday, we hosted a special brunch featuring delicious food prepared by Steve, our dedicated Breakfast Coordinator, alongside fun trivia, free haircuts for our service users and a clothing stall supported by the Anglican Church Op Shop. It was a wonderful event that brought everyone together and strengthened our community connections.
  • We’re especially grateful to a local hairdresser who has partnered with us to provide haircuts to women in need. One woman accessed this service this week and was deeply thankful for her fresh new look. Partnerships like these bring kindness and dignity to women doing it tough in our community.
  • On Thursday, Jennifer, our Community Support Worker and Art Space facilitator, held our weekly Art Space session. Art Space offers a calming, creative outlet where service users can slow down and relax their nervous systems through the creative process. For many, it’s one of the few opportunities they have during the week to find peace and focus.
  • On Friday, a group of Naturopathy students from Southern Cross University provided supervised consultations to Fletcher Street Cottage service users. Access to naturopathic care can be expensive, so this partnership allows us to offer vital holistic health services to those who need it most.
  • We celebrated another housing success this week, as a service user was offered long-term temporary accommodation. Our dedicated Community Support Workers have supported this individual for many years, and through their determination and ongoing advocacy, they were able to help secure this important step toward stability and independence.
