Nourish Northern Rivers Brings Food, Care and Connection to Fletcher Street Cottage
At Fletcher Street Cottage, we know that food is more than fuel. It’s connection, comfort and dignity. In August 2025, we were delighted to welcome the Nourish Northern Rivers Project to our weekly Women’s Afternoon, where they hosted a special pop-up mini workshop.
The session was hands-on, practical and deeply supportive, offering women in our community new ways to prepare simple and nourishing meals. Recipes included simple and healthy meals, a long storage food kit demonstration and an easy snack.
Alongside the food, the workshop created a space for conversation and support, with pantry kits and esky kits also provided for women to take home.
Here’s what Nerida Colley, Health Promotion Projects Officer at the Nourish Northern Rivers Project, had to say:
“The Nourish Northern Rivers Project visited Byron Bay and provided a pop-up mini workshop for the Women's Space at Fletcher Street Cottage.
The cottage run by the Byron Community Centre provides a safe and welcoming space for people experiencing homelessness and financial insecurity to come and be supported by skilled workers and volunteers. We showcased our infamous tinned potato and beetroot recipe that requires no heat or refrigeration, demonstrated our long storage food kit, talked about services and wrapped up with a new no blend bliss ball recipe.
It was a privilege to see the incredible work you are doing here and to provide a collaborative session that supports vulnerable women.”
We’re incredibly grateful for this partnership, which not only brings food knowledge and resources but also a message of hope, dignity and empowerment for women facing crisis.
Thank you, Nerida and the Nourish Northern Rivers Project, for sharing your time, energy and generosity with our community.
