The much-anticipated Surf Festival Market is returning as part of the Byron Bay Surf Festival on Saturday, 17 August. After a hiatus due to Cyclone Oma in 2019 and the challenges posed by the pandemic, the markets will be back, bigger and better than ever, under the management of Byron Markets, the owners of the iconic Byron Community Market, Byron Twilight Market and Byron Beachside Market.
Starting at 8am on Saturday, 17 August, the Byron Surf Festival Market will come alive at Dening Park as part of the four-day Byron Bay Surf Festival, which runs from 15-18 August. The markets featuring around 80 stalls, including food, fashion, and art, promise a “gnarly” lineup of vendors showcasing their unique creations.
John Finlay, Chairman of the Byron Bay Surf Festival, shares his excitement: “We’re thrilled to bring the Byron Surf Festival Market back to life. Partnering with Byron Markets ensures a truly authentic and vibrant experience that showcases the best of our local surf culture and community spirit.”
Founded in 2010, the Byron Bay Surf Festival has grown into a multi-day event that activates several aspects of surf culture through innovative and experiential ideas. The Festival is dedicated to presenting and maintaining the culture of surfing as an expression, art, and lifestyle. Reflecting the values and creative spirit of the Byron Bay community, the Festival serves as a platform that brings together surfers and those interested in surfing to celebrate local, national, and international surf culture.
James McMillan, founder of the Byron Bay Surf Festival, adds: “Our Festival has always been about more than just surfing; it’s about embracing the entire surf lifestyle and community. This year, with the markets returning, we are expanding that celebration to include even more of what makes Byron Bay special.”
Graham Double, Manager of Byron Markets, states: “We are honored to collaborate with the Byron Bay Surf Festival to bring back the Byron Surf Festival Market. This partnership highlights our shared commitment to supporting local artisans and promoting sustainability within our community.”
The Byron Surf Festival Market will be held on Saturday, 17 August, from 8a.m. to 3p.m. at Dening Park as part of the Byron Bay Surf Festival. Managed by Byron Markets, the major sponsor is SumUp, a global payment gateway offering the most secure card payment methods.
