The Byron Community Centre turns 130 this year. This milestone honours our history and celebrates the unique community spirit that has shaped the heart of Byron since 1895. Through a series of inclusive, engaging events and a curated historical exhibition, the Byron Community Centre will highlight the people, stories and spaces that make our community truly special.
From its origins as the Byron Bay School of Arts in 1895 to its revival in the 1980s and beyond, the Byron Community Centre has grown alongside the town. With silent films, dances, public meetings and vital services, it has always reflected the spirit of Byron Bay. creative, resilient and deeply local.
Throughout 2025, a series of inclusive, themed events will bring the community together to celebrate our 130-year legacy. From the Seniors Festival to jazz nights, 80s markets and a festive charity concert, there’s something for everyone to enjoy.
The Byron Community Centre exists because of the people who care about it. Volunteers, neighbours, artists and advocates have kept it going for generations. In every event and service, the message remains clear, community is not just what we do, it’s who we are.
Whether you’re a lifelong local or new to the area, there are countless ways to get involved. Contribute a story or photo, volunteer your time, attend an event, or support a cause close to home. This celebration belongs to the whole community. And that includes you.
The #BeLocal campaign invites everyone to reconnect with what makes Byron special. Whether it’s shopping at our markets, giving back at Fletcher Street Cottage or sharing your story online, #BeLocal is a reminder that belonging starts with showing up.
