1000 Voices

Shaping Local Action on Homelessness

2025

1000 Voices is a community-led initiative inviting Byron Shire locals to share their views and experiences to inform bold, collective action on homelessness. By listening deeply and engaging widely, this project will gather 1,000 voices from across the region to shape local decision-making and help create meaningful change.

1000
Voices

The answers to solving homelessness live within our community. 1000 Voices is about listening, learning and shaping a shared response – together.

What is it?

1000 Voices

1000 Voices is an initiative of the Ending Rough Sleeping Collaboration Byron Shire, co-funded by Byron Shire Council and a philanthropic foundation. The aim is to gather perspectives from people of all walks of life – including those often left out – to shape community-led responses to homelessness. Every story and idea matters.

Become a Community Researcher

Get Involved

We’re calling on locals to volunteer as Community Researchers. This supported role involves having caring conversations, encouraging participation and helping people complete a simple survey – either online or face-to-face. Training, materials and guidance will be provided. It’s a meaningful way to get involved and make an impact.

What Happens Next

Timeline

The community survey launches in late July and runs through to the end of September 2025. In November, the community will be invited to a special event to share the findings from the 'What We Heard' report and shape the next steps. Your voice – and the voices you help gather – will directly influence what comes next.
