Job description

Providing exceptional service to theatre clients and patrons of the Byron Community Centre. As the duty officer you are required to train, induct and manage all Front Of House staff. When rostered to work your tasks include but are not limited to; venue and box office set up and pack down, maintain crowd control and cleanliness of the foyer and office areas, recording of maintenance and any incidents in the theatre, green room, office and entertaining area in the Byron Community Centre.

Your role is an integral part of the Community Centre providing a service to the guests of the Byron Community Centre. You will report directly to the Venue Manager of the Byron Community Centre. You are also required to have basic knowledge of the Ticket Search ticketing system, incident reporting and budget management. Updating the venue board with staff and events.

Responsibilities

  • Promote and follow the values of Byron Community Centre within a collaborative and inclusive framework.
  • Maintain a clean and safe workspace, and abide by workplace health and safety policies and procedures
  • Maintaining professional customer service and resolving any issues from a customer, staff member or theatre client
  • Being the point of contact for any queries, problems or reports from customers, clients or staff
  • Delegating and allocating appropriate, safe and legal tasks to BCC Front of House staff and volunteers and overseeing the performance of these tasks
  • Signing on and off volunteers and providing breaks if necessary 
  • Manage reporting of all financial records including bar, catering and box office.
  • Ensure set up and pack up of box office and foyer area is completed at end of shift
  • Managing all ticket sales, refunds, exchanges and ticketing issues for theatre shows
  • Documenting and reporting any maintenance or cleaning issues to the venue manager
  • Work effectively within the Byron Community Centre venue staff team
  • Must be available to work rostered events and, if unavailable, advise venue manager immediately or roster replacement staff. 

Job requirements

Essential Selection Criteria

  • Experience in planning, managing and running events
  • Demonstrated experience in delegating, supervising or managing staff and volunteers
  • Team management and team building skills 
  • Must have a good level of fitness & physical ability to walk up & down stairs as well as  lift furniture when required
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision and use initiative independently
  • Highly organized person, able to manage multiple tasks simultaneously
  • Highly developed communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Excellent administration and computer skills
  • Ability to identify and solve problems and deal with conflict fairly.
  • Ability to adapt to change, and to undertake roles outside their normal position description.
  • An understanding and ethos of working within a not-for-profit organization.
  • Respect for privacy, confidentiality, equity and anti-discrimination.
  • Working with children check
  • Police check 
  • Responsible service of alcohol (RSA) certificate NSW  
  • Commitment to the Byron Bay community.
